Creating textures for an Inner tube toy in IMVU
The
map for the innertube. Its not obvious what's going on here, but the
middle region with the most triangles is the outside of the
"tube", and the top and bottom meet in the hole in the middle.
The left and right edges join up to make a complete ring.
Not all meshes will be "weighted" this way, my first attempts
at mesh generation used an even grid. The aim is to put more detail where
it is needed.

Perhaps some examples will help:
The
horizontal stripes from the beach ball example:
This gives stripes that extend round the tube. By replacing the colour
bands with textures it is possible to make a "donut" style.

The vertical
stripes from the beach ball example:
This gives "segments", reminiscent of a traditional beach
ball.
